Blog layouts before they were big

Everything has to start small. The same counts for blogs. These days, the blog-o-sphere is dominated by a couple of blogs that have many readers. I'm pretty sure you've heard (and seen) blogs like PSDTuts, Abduzeedo and Noupe. One day, I hope Marcofolio.net becomes one of those big websites too.

But did you ever wonder, how these awesome websites looked liked in the good old days? Look no further, because here's a list showing blog layouts before they were big.

Old Blog Layouts

The image above is showing my website (Marcofolio.net) on Jun 09, 2002. It wasn't my domain back then, so I don't know what kind of website it was. If you want to take a guess, I'm all ears.

This article is showing the old designs of popular blogs that currently have a beautiful layout (mostly design blogs). It's possible that the moment the screenshots were taken, the owner of the site is someone else than now (like my website).

Create a summertime compilation poster

As some of my readers will know, I've been on a vacation for a while. I wanted to share the summertime feeling with everyone by creating a summertime compilation poster.

In this Photoshop tutorial is explained how to create a nice compilation image: Cutting and selecting objects from pictures, placing and combining them in beautiful artwork.

You can download the PSD from this tutorial in the download section.

This is the first time I created something using this technique, but I believe the outcome is really good.

Breathtaking dual- and widescreen wallpapers

Many people own a widescreen monitor. This is mainly because most laptops are widescreen and more laptops than normal PC's are sold. Another thing that people love these days is working with dual screens (two or more screens). I'm working dual too: 15,4" on my laptop, together with a 21" widescreen. It really improves my workflow as a programmer / designer.

One of the problems with these wide screen resolutions, is that many backgrounds (wallpapers) will not fit since most of them are made for a normal screen. This is the reason I collected 33 of the most breathtaking dual- and widescreen wallpapers.

If you don't own a wide- / dualscreen monitor, don't hold back to check out this article. Most backgrounds are a great design inspiration too.

Stunning neon light 3d typography

This tutorial is inspired by one of the creations I placed in the beauty of 3d typography article. By combining the powers of Illustrator and Photoshop, you can recreate this awesome technique.

Typography is a really hot topic at this moment in the design sphere and neon light is and has always been an effective way to attract users. Combine these two to make some beautiful artwork.

Most of this tutorial is done in Photoshop, the 3D characters are created in Illustrator. If you don't have Illustrator, you can also try making 3D letters in Photoshop.

Get ready to make some amazing typography artwork. You can download my final result as PSD from the download section.

A Flash image viewer by reading directory contents

As a web developer or programmer, you want to make your software as dynamic as possible. This means that you can easily change the code or contents, without digging in and rebuilding your original source.

(Flash) Image rotators are a pretty effective and attractive way to show your images. Most of the times, these Flash image rotators are not dynamic and need to rebuild every time you want to change the images. Here's a solution for this problem, because I'll explain how to create a Flash image viewer by reading directory contents.

Flash Image Rotator

Just place all images you want to rotate in the same directory as the Flash file and this script does all the work for you. If you want to add an image, just place it online and the Flash viewer will show it.

Check out the demo of the Flash image viewer, or download the flash image viewer by reading directory contents from the download section.
