Place your feedcount in a random sentence

CSS-Tricks is a great website from Chris Coyier (I've mentioned it before) that I'm sure you've heard of. Next to the high quality of articles, the design of the blog is simple, yet really good. One of the things I really like about the design, is the way Chris shows his feedcount in a sentence, that will change every time you refresh your browser.

I was wondering how he created this funny RSS show-off and wanted to recreate the technique. Using Feedburner, PHP and some CSS, I managed to achieve the goal.

Place your feedcount in a random sentence

You can download the source code in the download section and you can view what we're going to make in the demo section.

Use this technique to pimp your website, making it a bit more funny and attractive for your visitors.

[Inspiration] Q-Dance festival logos

Q-dance is one of the leading harder styles dance festival organizers of the world. I really love these harder styles (hardstyle / hardcore) of music and already visited a couple of these great dance events.

Every festival from Q-dance has their own logo. These logos are already really good, but what I like most about it is the fact that Q-dance changes the logo of the festival to the theme of the festival. This theme changes every year, which means that there will be continuously new logos for the parties.

Q-dance festival logos

These logos are great to look at and will surely get your design juices going. You'll recognize the logos over each year, but each time with a different touch (theme). You can try it out for yourselve: Pimp your own logo (if you have one) to own-chosen theme! Get inspired by these logos to get a good idea on how great this can look like.

Taking the plunge: Buying a MacBook Pro

Hi there people! Just a quick personal note from me. School is about to start over here in a couple of days and I was always stuck with a 3-and-a-half-year old 800 MHZ laptop. I think you can imagine that this was a bad thing for me, being a programmer / designer.

With lots of thinking and checking out resources if it'll benefit me, I decided to buy a MacBook Pro. Yesterday, I received my new laptop.

MacBook Pro

I've never worked with an Mac before, but I hear a lot of positive sounds about it. If you own a Mac, what do you think is one of the greatest features of the machine / OS? And if not, what's holding you back to buy one (Next to the ridiculous high price tag)?

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my new laptop. I'm now able to work (a lot!) faster and this will probably mean more (web)design articles for you too! I'm already working on a new design for Marcofolio.net.

Blog layouts before they were big

Everything has to start small. The same counts for blogs. These days, the blog-o-sphere is dominated by a couple of blogs that have many readers. I'm pretty sure you've heard (and seen) blogs like PSDTuts, Abduzeedo and Noupe. One day, I hope Marcofolio.net becomes one of those big websites too.

But did you ever wonder, how these awesome websites looked liked in the good old days? Look no further, because here's a list showing blog layouts before they were big.

Old Blog Layouts

The image above is showing my website (Marcofolio.net) on Jun 09, 2002. It wasn't my domain back then, so I don't know what kind of website it was. If you want to take a guess, I'm all ears.

This article is showing the old designs of popular blogs that currently have a beautiful layout (mostly design blogs). It's possible that the moment the screenshots were taken, the owner of the site is someone else than now (like my website).
