Inspiration can be found everywhere. Whether it's the colour of toons or the colours of game heroes that can get your inspiration fluids flowing, the fact remains that you can get inspiration from them.

Today, we're looking at the animal kingdom to draw some inspiration from. Not the full animal kingdom, just a specified part: colourful insects. Some of these insects have amazing colour, while others like to keep it on a suble yet noticeable green hue.

Beautiful pictures, I love the colors, but you said insects, and I felt very secure that people who knew enough about bugs to find such beautiful ones to photograph would know the difference between insects and arachnids, but no, and suddenly the girl with really intensely strong arachnophobia is staring a freaky spider right in the damn, huge, zoomed-in face. So, GREAT job with the AMAZING photos, PLEASE keep up the good work, but really? Spiders aren't insects. Thanks for the late night scare. -___- That was such a nice warm, fuzzy feeling. *shudders* At least post that it's 'bugs' or better yet, say there's insects and spiders. Then I coulda been on my guard and avoided the spider pictures, and I would have enjoyed the entire page even more.
However, as it is, I do want to say that the rest of the real insects are truly gorgeous, and I'm awed to see so many amazing photographs of so many amazing creatures all in one place. Just not so thrilled with the spidery meet and greet. '>>

Bugs, insects, spiders or whatever , there is a good reason to be concerned, some are poisonious ! Their colorful markings are a warning to preditors, and to humans to keep away , OR ELSE !

Very nice set of shots illustrating color in insects. I am particularly interested in mechanisms for color production. I love thin film interference, pruinescence, as well as pigmets and diffusion as mechanisms of color.

I live in the highlands of Panama. I was riding my bike and on the pavement I passed this amazing insect. Oh I wish I'd stopped and taken a picture with my phone.

I can't find it searching the internet.

It was about 1 1/2" long about the size of a good size cockroach.

Half of the body split down the mid line was a brilliant flame orange with a yellow cross line and the other half was a brilliant aqua green.

Thanks for gathering these colorful photographs and for including one of mine in your collection. I find insects to be masters of color. Some of the ways they produce color include the use of pigments, and diffraction of light though pruinescence and thin film interference. Some insects even glue colorful material to their bodies! Color is used for camouflage, mating, deception (mimicry), and many other reasons. Insects in particular, seem to also use color just for the sake of the beautiful uniqueness. I believe this is part of our Creator's Masterpiece.
