mfEdge: Add edges to images with this Joomla 1.0.x mambot

Logo Joomla! is my favorite CMS. I created a mambot that allows you to easily add cool Web 2.0 edges to your images. It's called mfEdge and you can use it free of charge.

Use this mambot to give some extra eye-candy to your images. It is very simple to use and uses unobtrusive javascript. Many advanced options are included, such as adding own edge masks.

You don't need Photoshop or any other advanced and expensive programs to make beautiful, cool, Web 2.0 images. Use mfEdge and you're ready to go. Additionally, the original image will be kept intact.

Install

  1. Log in to your back-end of the site
  2. Go to "Installers", "Mambots"
  3. Click on "Browse" and navigate to the downloaded ZIP archive
  4. Press "Upload File & Install"
  5. Go to "Mambots", "Site Mambots"
  6. Search for mfEdge and publish it
  7. Download edge.js
  8. UnZIP the archive and only get edge.js. Upload it to the following folder on your FTP:

    /mambots/content/mfedge

    Don't forget to read the license of edge.js.

How to use

Syntax

Use the following syntax to enable mfEdge on your images:
{mfedge imgpath/img_name}

The base image path is always: images/stories. For example, if you have an image in your images/stories folder, your syntax will be: {mfedge img_name}

If you have an image in your images/stories/subfolder folder, your syntax will be: {mfedge subfolder/img_name}

When the user hasn't enabled JavaScript or the browser doesn't support this script, a non-formatted image will be displayed.

Advanced Configuration

mfEdge has a couple of parameters you can set. Seperate the parameters with the | symbol.

  1. The image location and name. This one has to be used, or else the script will not work.
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name}
  2. ALT attribute for the image, making it W3C valid. If left empty, no ALT attribute will be used.
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name|Logo}
  3. Float the image to the left or to the right. Default is left.
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name|Logo|right}
  4. Load a specified mask, referenced to a number in "edges.js". For more information about the file, read below. Min is 0, Max is NumberOfLoadedMasks, Default is 0.
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name|Logo|right|4}
  5. Use the inbuilt edge. Select between true or false. If set to true, the image will have a soft edges without any external resource image.
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name|Logo|right|4|false}
  6. Set the masksize in percent. Min is 0, Max is HalfOfImageDimension, default is 30 percent
    Example: {mfedge imgpath/img_name|Logo|right|4|false|10}

Now I would have a an edge around my image, with an ALT attribute "Logo", aligned on the right side, using the 4th edge from "edges.js", not using the builtin edge engine with a edge size of 10 percent.

Only the first parameter must be filled. All others are optional. If you don't want to use the parameter, leave it empty. For example, if you want all default settings, but use the builtin edge, use the following syntax:
{mfedge imgpath/img_name||||true}

Adding / removing masks

mfEdge supports the use of external image masks. To add or remove masks, open the following file:
mambots/content/mfedge/edges.js
with Notepad or any other text editing program. Define the array and add or remove values. This is only recommended when you're an advanced programmer.
