Graffiti art to boost your inspiration

Graffiti (or spray paint) often regarded by others as unsightly damage or unwanted vandalism. But some times, the boring wall is supplied with a true piece of graffiti art, making it a joy for the eyes. A new game from Atari, Getting Up, is based on tagging.

I made a collection of pictures showing these fine spray paint creations. By looking at them and studying the details, you could boost your (Photoshop) design inspiration. If you're not in to design, just sit back and enjoy this amazing form of art.

Please take note that I'm not showing any graffiti tags or space spray paint in this article. Those can be pretty inspiring too.

Beautiful graffiti art

Actually, the last one indeed is a tag. I just had to post it here, the flames and colors are absolutely beautiful.

I still can't believe some of them are actually graffiti. Huge respect for those artists who create it. Now start designing!

Gravatar image How can you say something like that?! Art is art, hands down, art is an expression of feeling and a display of ability, it takes TRUE creativity to use city streets as a canvas.

Anyone can go out and buy paints and canvas... But it takes true devotion, creativity, and poise to use a brick wall!

To say it's "ghetto" or "weak" is simply a way to make yourself feel better, because you know you can't do it!

Art is from your heart, no "reputable" museum can decide that or not, and until you understand that, you will never be a true artist.

Gravatar image excuse me but i have been to numerous graffiti art exhibits in established museums through out eastern Europe and just because the scene originated in the back streets does not mean that it is a "secondary form of art" people pour their souls into something they could get arrested for at any time, hours and hundreds of dollars go towards graffiti every other day to the devoted individual and still they expect nothing in return. don't turn a blind eye to the thousands of practicing artists today

Gravatar image Listen little boy- what he said was true.
REAL artists PAY their dues, PAY for their own canvas, and make they're art where its WANTED.

Anything else is pointless, stupid vandalism.

Losers with nothing real to say, no jobs, no future, so they go 'make a mark' on someone elses property.

Unless someone gave you permission to put it there, its not ART. Its vandalism.
Chelsea   2008-04-11 02:41:56
Gravatar image Vandalism is the work of a closed mind.
Call it what you will, But this is art.
Real Artists don't conform to the confines of a canvas. This is out of the box. The world could use more people like these artists, and less condescending squares.

God - Who is an artist ?   2008-06-06 00:57:36
Gravatar image Art is respectful and I agree with some of the comments...what is art to you may be trash to others...find a respectful medium and display it in a place where it may be viewed at will (gallery) or the so called artist is only imposing itself on others whether they want it or not.....what would you call that....defecation? Only someone can call the artist an artist cause without anyone seeing it as art it is simply ....something!
rocketrefund   2008-09-22 07:30:30
Gravatar image art does not have to be respectful.
Street art is good precisely because it is not in a gallery somewhere. I don't have to pay some museum in order to see someone's art. Maybe all artists don't care if they get paid, or public recognition.

Everyone imposes themselves on everyone else. Not only street artists. Right now you are trying to impose you idea that imposing ideas is shit. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
What about television ads? I don't really want to see half of the crappy ads people pay to put on television. I choose to watch the TV. (sometimes) But you choose to walk down the street. At least my art isn't inside your living room.

I mean, you do make a point, but why should we be expected to apply it only to art?
guest2009 - Hmmm....   2009-06-11 16:57:40
Gravatar image My question to all of you who support graffitti art on the streets.........

would you want someone to spray paint the side of your home? would you want your kids to view some of the stuff that is painted on the walls? not everyone can "choose" what streets they walk down or what they see on those streets....so why is it okay for others to defame private property and subject others to their "art" when it may be offensive to others?

I'm just wondering if anyone has thought of these questions when they are making statements in support of or against graffitti art on city streets.

Gravatar image i would love to have any of those on my home...

and most of those posted, if not all are legal walls
me - really fool?!   2009-12-09 18:12:28
Gravatar image I don't like graffiti tags and people tagging walls and what not for the sole sake of tagging them, but these are not normal graffiti. The only thing that makes them considered graffiti is the fact that they used spray paint to make them.

They're all murals, and the artist most likely obtained permission before doing them. If these same pieces of art were done with traditional brush paints would you be so opposed?

Some of these probably took days to paint, so I'm pretty sure if they didn't have permission the cops or someone would have been all over them. The average graffiti and tags I would consider obtrusive and annoying, but these are true works of art.
dusk90   2010-07-30 02:57:31
Gravatar image Very few, if any, graffiti writers will paint somebody's home. Those who do are generally inexperienced, ignorant of the culture and will either give up or be caught before long too.
They are also often the same people with a complete lack of respect for anything who will mug you, break into your house or violently vandalise (without paint, more like with heavy, blunt objects that can be swung) private property just for a laugh.
They aren't people who paint the sort of pieces you see examples of above.
mschelley   2010-10-04 02:53:10
Gravatar image Actually, I would love to be able to get one of these artists to come and beautify my fence, my garage, hell, even my kitchen. The 3d and 10th images are ridiculously gorgeous (my sister's boss owns a piece by this artist and I loooove it).

Art is art - whether on a wall or canvas. And there is a difference between graffiti artists and those who just tag to be offensive or destructive.
dusk90   2010-07-30 02:50:08
Gravatar image Plain gray/white walls are imposed on all of us continuously. Urban areas look so clinical now that the world outside could just as well be one big mental institution, everybody's wandering around encouraged to concentrate on their own neuroses rather than any real thought, not to engage with anybody or anything on more than the most superficial of levels.

Surely a bit of colour, or a scribble or anything else that stands out from the monotony to catch your eye and provoke some sort of thought - whether that be "hey that looks kinda cool" or "shit that's ugly" - is more positive than just 'blank'. Engage with the environment around you.

Real graffiti isn't necessarily art; it's a protest against being dictated where and when it's acceptable to express oneself. It's the primal scream that exists deep down in every person that we're told we should suppress since we're too intelligent to do things just because we feel like it, even though as much as we try to fight it we'll always have inexplicable impulses. It's doing what you feel like, where and when you feel like it because life now is overcomplicated and truly expressing yourself is a much better feeling than fighting your nature out of fear of what others will think of you.

Painting legal walls and doing gallery exhibitions is a much tamer beast entirely, like an animal oblivious of its soul's existence. That's art, and maybe it's not graffiti anymore.
katsomething   2011-08-26 16:03:38
Gravatar image ok, maybe the walls/whatever surface is free, but the spray paint isn't.

I have my MFA and nowhere in my classical/nonclassical training have I ever heard that Graffiti art isn't real art. Many a reputable Museum has displayed such works. Do you have a narrow mind? Then art will be limited to you...an open mind makes art limitless!
Ray   2008-05-07 23:34:50
Gravatar image I think most people reading this will agree with me here when I say that its people like you [Noteasyatall] who ruin art these days as you seem to think that art can only be 'art' if somebody wants to buy it.

Art is a form of expression just like writing or singing, if someone wants to buy it thats great but if not then it doesn't make it any less of a piece of art. Just because everybody might not like, or want to listen to your favourite song doesn't mean it isn't a song does it?

It really fustrates me when people slate graffiti especially they say its 'vandalism' just because its on a wall not a canvas. Obviously these people have no imagination, creativity or any idea how difficult the art is or even how skilled these artists have to be. I have alot of respect for any artist whether the work is to my taste or not, but people like ''noteasyatall'' should really let go once in a while and stop getting on their high horse just because they think that they know better. Try opening your mind to a few new things because theirs some really great stuff out there :).

Personally, I think these are great especially the 3rd and 10th ones. Does anyone know the artist of these? They look like they're from the same anyway.
Aethel Wulf - To Ray   2008-08-06 12:57:51
Gravatar image Yes, graffiti is absolutely an art. It does take an unmatchable skill to pull these off. But the bottom line still stands. In a sense, someone is paying for their art. It is costing land and business owners hundreds of dollars to repaint their walls. Now unless this art is licit, it is equal to drawing on a sleeping person without permission. The only difference is a contract painter cost money. Nothing excuses the damage to someone's property. I want to know if any of the illegitimate "taggers" paint on their mother's house or their best bud's house.

Everything can be perverted, and portrayed disrespectfully...Even art.
rocketrefund   2008-09-22 07:25:00
Gravatar image They probably would. Their best buds probably help them, Their mothers are probably proud of their talent.
The only problem with this for illegal "taggers" is that this is very close to home to say "Hey, I live here, I'm the one painting all over town!"

But only one of these was a "tag" and it was probably legal.

Gravatar image You have your head up your ass. Vandalism can still be art.
Creating a hole in a beautiful stained glass window is still creating something; albeit, a hole. Try arguing with words that you know the definition to.

And, retard, a paid artist does not buy his own canvas. The buyer buys the canvas and the paint, and the time, and the design.

And what the hell does "pays his dues" mean? Like dues in the awana's club? the rotary boy of the month club? Some stupid frat where you can drink your fucking mind away, surround yourself with people who believe the same as you so you don't have to change or be pressured to think, beat up, shun, haze, persecute anyone who thinks differently than you...? Your head is up your ass still.

by the way:
A lot of street artists that you see on sites like this one actually do have something to say.
For many of them, this is their job, that they get paid a shitload of money! A lot more for something that is more meaningful than anything you will probably ever do. This is their future, and I must say, a brighter future than yours seems to be. And I want their art there. It's better than some falling down wall with stucco and paint pealing off of it. It's better than some vast white or grey nothingness. It's better than a lot of things that I don't want there that is legal.

So maybe it is ghetto; Though, I don't see any of this as being very ghetto. These people have more skill than most people I ever meet.
And maybe you are an elitist dick who has to go make his mark on some web forum where you aren't wanted with lousy grammar and horrible creativity!

Reputable museums often feature artists who've pioneered or mastered a technique in a certain medium. Painting, as in paint applied by a brush on a surface, is thousands of years old. Graffiti by it's modern definition (markers/spray paint on a surface) is only in its thirties. Give it time, and one day you'll see a big chunk of wall in the Smithsonian.

Gravatar image Definitely art. I love the dimensional stuff, especially. And when you see a correctly proportioned face that large, that says the artist draws a great deal. Artists will express themselves with anything, period. Paint on a building goes back to ceilings in chapels, so why would this be weak? We may see alot of graffiti and think it is all similar, which is fine. Commenting and blatantly pointing out the fact that you don't get it is alot easier than making something completely original.

REAL artists express themselves in ways that aren't always bound to the conventions of societal norms. REAL artists CREATE. REAL artists express whether their creations are wanted or not. None of it is pointless if it is real to the one who made it and has meaning for them. A lot of graffiti artists are very bright people who DO have something to say. You shouldn't look at graffiti and just call it graffiti, you should look at it and admire it. Sure some people just do tags, but others create impressive murals that portray a message. As far as "them" being jobless bums with no futures, maybe they're jobless but they have futures. Everyone does. What's yours?

Gravatar image the funny thing is, most of the artists that did these (7th Letter Crew and MSK) are making hundreds of thousands of dollars selling their talents to big name companies. just because their work isn't hanging in a gallery somewhere (actually it is), doesn't mean they're not artists. also, a lot of the stuff in this post was invited..
exiledsurfer - More from RAM (picture #1)   2008-05-17 12:24:03
Gravatar image #1 is from RAM (Random Aeresol Movement), an amazing portugese artist i had the chance to meet by chance lin 2006 in lisbon while he was organizing a graffiti exhibition in an old printhouse he squatted. He is one of the moving forces in graffiti in europe, and is simply an amazing artist and all around good dude. While he primarily works in lisbon, he grew up in Sintra, about an hour outside of lisbon, and across the street from the house he grew up in is what is known locally as RAM's Wall of Fame, a block wall surrounding a factory, the owner of which recognized RAM's talent, and allowed him to completely conver with his work over a period of years. The wall features his collaborations with the who's who of portugese artists, and is a living museum to their art. I posted pictures of my favorite pieces to flickr last year, and you can see them here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/artificialeyestv/sets/72157594280475187/

photos from the printhouse exhibition, called VSP, which was covered in work over the course of a year leading up to the final closing exhibition, where i had the chance to do a live video performance while the final work was being created live can be seen in these two photo sets at flickr:

(closing day)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/artificialeyestv/sets/72157594279507475/

(our live video performance) http://www.flickr.com/photos/artificialeyestv/sets/72157594280266824/

I would like to point out that i (a non grafitti artist) personally BOUGHT 3 pieces from the artists exhibiting in this exhibition because i was blown away by their work, much of which could be exhibited in any gallery or museum of reputation anywhere in the world, and often IS. Graffittti has long been recognized as a reputable arform, both critically as well as in terms of being sold to collectors, at leastsince the mid-70's. EASTPAK, the backpack manufacturer is an ongoing sponsor of the portugese scene, and has also commissioned the artists to do custom pieces on commission. Born in the ghetto, graffitti has long been coopted by corporations and the media, and spread all oer the world as an artform, lifestyle, and culture.

I will also take the time to point interested people towards the other video work that my partner synesthete and i did while in lisbon, the Video Grafitti project, there is a photoset here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/artificialeyestv/sets/72157594280493809/

and a video on youtube here:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7obD7PcZWBI

"Together with local VJ collective, videomorphose.com, artificialeyestv bombed the city with guerilla video graffiti, a form of urban street art new to lisboa. Armed with a full magazine of subversive content in their laptops and a high-performance videobeamer firing twenty five frames per second mounted inside a civilian SUV, the crew of four assaulted the streets late at night with their temporary visual ammunition. Video graffiti covered walls, automobiles, and monuments temporarlily, leaving behind no damage or trace of their presence."

However, I really don't agree with the downvoting and scapegoating "NotEasyAtAll" because he doesn't consider grafitti art.

These elaborate pieces are obviously commissioned, or simply allowed, but to call someone "closeminded" for stating the obvious fact that unwanted grafitti is vandalization of property.. Yeah, you're candidates for the "should not be allowed to breed"-pool.

graffiti is how i started my graphic design career. i was arrested 2 times, and was never charged. to tell you the truth, all of the friends i used to write graff with in high school (and later) have good jobs or gigs now. most are entrepreneurs... a lot of friends that were into more traditional forms of art/music when we were younger have joe jobs with no creativity involved... i guess they got burnt out on creativity through conformity. i would like to understand how someone can think that any of these examples are ugly, or even more so, how the building or wall under any form of vandalism is in any way more beautiful than the earth that was once there. we've all vandalized the earth in one way or another just by contributing to our society... smell your shit, it probably smells worse than you think.

Vampire Daze - Art   2009-07-18 10:05:37
Gravatar image Agreed, this is art. Some of it extraordinarily done BUT if it is done on property without permission it IS vandalism. Most of the murals done in my city have been painted on ugly walls and permission was granted. I mean, who wouldn't prefer to see such a colourful array rather than cracking grey cement. I would be furious if someone decided to make the side wall of my house a canvas - after all it is my property and I paid for it. There are many places that would love an artist to jazz up their dreary walls. Just ask first. Tagging, on the other hand, is not art it's pure stupid minded vandalism.
TeeEYEemm   2009-07-21 09:53:24
Gravatar image Anyone who says that this is not art, is not an artist, they are simply completely inept observers. This is art bred from an entire culture. Daim, ,Loomit, And Banksy are only a few who have been owning Europe. Check out Retna (shown) and people like Sam Flores, Saber, Revok, Twist, (I could go on forever) and say that that's not art. That would be like saying you don't breathe air. Art is someone using inspiration to create something that inspires others. This inspires many.

Gallery hours, Tuesday - Saturday, 11am until 6pm

Santa Monica, CA, August 18, 2009 - Robert Berman Gallery is pleased to present Vagos y Reinas, an exhibition of selected works by artists and muralists Mac and Retna. Vagos y Reinas marks the first time these longtime collaborators have exhibited in a gallery together.

Mac and Retna are unlikely partners. Mac is a photorealist: His work in spray paint makes the medium dissolve into a sea of classical touches. Retna is all brush: He is known for his abstract embellishments and calligraphic font. Collaboration is a constant in graffiti, but from the first time that Mac and Retna worked together on a mural it was clear that each painter brought out the best in the other; that the precision of one balanced the looseness of the other. In the five years since, Mac and Retna have collaborated on more than 20 murals around the globe, producing some of the most memorable, monumental work in recent memory. Vagos y Reinas is their widely anticipated first collaborative gallery show.

Mac and Retna's murals are points of neighborhood pride, and it has made them local heroes. They often get involved in the communities they paint in, speaking in schools or mentoring young artists. Their murals have also become local landmarks-so much so that their piece on La Brea and 3rd was included in a recent Los Angeles Times ad campaign featuring iconic people and places that represent the city.

Vagos y Reinas brings their outdoor work inside. The title of the show, which translates to "vagrants and queens," references Mac and Retna's street-infused styles and celestial depictions of women. On exhibit are large-scale pieces that represent some of their best work together. For example, with "Gracias a la Vida," an 11-by-11-foot canvas, Mac and Retna exalt a photo of a beautiful woman into a divine being. It is a perfect example of their use of graffiti and fine art, combining spray paint with Alphonse Mucha's whiplash curves, motifs pulled from Byzantine art, and a powerful image that recalls Gustav Klimt.

The exhibit also serves as a retrospective, showcasing individual work from each artist before and after they met, as well as brand new pieces that demonstrate their maturation. "I think that our development as individual artists has made our collaborative work that much stronger and more unique," Mac explains. Mac will show his extremely technical photorealistic canvases, while Retna plans to create a floor-to-ceiling installation of his calligraphic font.

The exhibition coincides with the release of Alianza (Upper Playground/Gingko Press), a 96-page hardcover book that documents their partnership over the years. Vagos y Reinas is open to the public from September 26 to October 17, 2009, during normal gallery hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 12 to 6 p.m.

Gravatar image You know what? Graffiti is seriously an art form, its our way of expressing ourseves in a way that not only goes against the norm, which defines it as art, but also a way for us to stay clean and keep from doing other stuff, despite common belief not all graffiti atists are pot heads and uneducated people. We live for graffiti and its a way for us to escape reality and do something that we're truly good at. Im not saying that not all graffiti is art because its definatly not, there are some people that do it just because they think its cool to destroy peoples property and the people who do that upset me. I am someone who is big on tagging because not only does it help me stay clean, but it also makes me feel very proud of myself. The feeling that you get when you plane and draw a "peice", and then go and pull it off is nearly impossible to explain. We do this for many reasons but without graffiti we wouldn't be the people we are, it defines us and makes us uniqe, it helps us to survive in this urban reality. Its about doing something that people thoght was impossible, it about exploring new places and reaching new hights, its a way for us to define our thoughts in a way people can enjoy. The artists that practice this art have to dedicate their lives to it, its not like they just one day decided to pick up a can of spray paint and make an amazing work of art, no, they had and still have to practice continually because it takes a set of skills that have to be well honed in order to do it. All you people out there that think this is pure vandalism must seriously have something wrong with yourselves becaus whats the difference between graffiti and a mural? It makes a wall more interesting and it is something that can make your day different. Graffiti is a lifestyle and its impossible to explain to an outsider. What is art but an expression of the artist? True art is done regardless of what people think and i have to think that this is art because the people that do it continue doing it regardless of recognition, they dont get paid like all the other artists out there, they are not featured in art magazines or in museums, and they continue taking the risk whenever they do this.
Anonymous   2009-09-27 06:10:12
Gravatar image Some of these comments are idiotic. "Real" painters don't steal their canvas; if they did, they would go to jail. Logically, people who walk around tagging things that don't belong to them should go to jail.

That being said, I would have no problem commissioning a graffiti artist to do something this incredible on the side of my house, because it is my house, and it is my decision.

The intent is what makes it art. If the intent is just to deface something to make a point, then you're not an artist, you're a douche.
Laura   2011-08-24 10:14:08
Gravatar image Sorry guy but intent is not what makes art. Art is meant to invoke emotion and judging by the fact that you are "emotional" about this "defacement" I suppose it is, in fact, by definition art.

Also, it is beautiful. I think the world should be filled with art like this rather than bland brick walls.

What gives punks the idea that they have a "right" to deface my property? Now, put them in art gallery? Sure. I see that there's a place for this type of artwork, and some of these examples are among the finest I've seen. But not the sides of my buildings - O.K.?

Gravatar image Im a graffiti artist , not a "tagger" which is what i do but i do not being called, i live in the bay area in california and think all of u who think this is not art are extremely ignorant graffiti is a way to express feelings and emotions and is a urban art it brightens up streets and walls and most of the time takes teenagers on a pathway away from drugs and violence because its a substitute for hiding there emotions. the best peaces that i have done were when i was depressed or angry it the mind & emotion to hand & touch  :s
syntec   2009-11-13 16:02:11
Gravatar image So I am just curious, all of you who are saying that Graffiti is not art because it is on a wall... What's up with the Sistine Chapel? And all of you who make distinctions between taggers and this. They are all taggers. The one that is distinguished as a "tag" 2, 4-6, 8, 10, and all of the characters evolved from people who were "tagging" the subways adding to their pieces. There is no difference. Good art evokes emotion, if they make you mad, is that not an emotion? Is it any different than a canvas? You are just mad because you feel you cannot control it. They just made you feel helpless and angry... Take it for what its worth.
Quote:
would you want someone to spray paint the side of your home?

Just curious when the last time you saw any true graffiti artists "tag" a home. Yeah they write their name on walls, but it's generally understood that that is unacceptable.
You paint a half ass painting not easy at all, and you can write words, but "taggers" are giving emotion, action, and emphasis to letters. It's like one word poems mixed with visual art. A good deal of Graphic designers are graffiti artists. To address a few of your concerns. Can't stop, won't stop.

Gravatar image What a lot of people fail to understand, is that a lot of "graffiti" walls are COMMISSION. Small business owners will give artists access to their walls, in exchange for the attention it brings.

Not all graffiti is illegal.
Not all art is legal.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The person who created this site thinks that the graffiti they found is beautiful, that's an opinion.

Mine happens to agree.

To create an image on such a large scale is impressive in my eyes.

Gravatar image This graffiti art is cool, but only cool when this is done on designated walls, not everywhere, otherwise, people will loathe it if any inconvenience caused upon them, what do you think?
nicholas sandy - fools who display ignorance   2009-12-21 05:35:56
Gravatar image Graffiti is probably one of the most underrated art forms around today. Always maligned by fools who usually make crap comments like "its illegal", " it is un-sightly" or the classic "its just so ghetto". While some validity may apply to some of these comments, it is the breaking the law aspect of it, the upsetting of old square people and the fact, like most good things comes from the poor side of town.
The poor side of town is usually where you can find the best skaters, best bmxers, best hookers in high heels, the most character filled dive bars, be involved in questionable drug deals, learn valuable life saving skills, see the occasional knife fight, have a great night out in the sleaziest strip club, weird little clubs and just funny and sometimes scary stuff. The language of the street if you want some pretentious angle on it.
If some ponce who piles bike wheels on floor and says "it signifies the struggle to survive in the modern urban world" floats your boat, well how come some kid who sprays some beautiful pic on an otherwise dirty brick wall can't call himself an artist, just like a skater who practices ten hours a day to perfect a heel flip should be called a talented athlete? No :) :) :) :) :) :)

Gravatar image Because the cop portrayed as the "pig" is so original and creative that its phenomenal and deserves to be displayed on the streets.

This is ghetto. It is art, but it's ghetto art. Nuff said.

Gravatar image For those of you who are a little interested in how some graffiti artists get started, what their inspiration and motives are among other things I have been interviewing artists for around 2 years now and you can read the outcome of these interviews here:

Gravatar image you guys are all getting hyped up over pointless things. Yes some graffiti work is illegal but not all. Some times a local artist cant find some one to piece up thier property so they may be inclined to illegally create thier work. I am a traditional artist and i appreciate graffiti art. I think its a great way to be creative. All i can say though is if you cant find a place where some one wants your work, go out and buy a huge 48 x 48 canvas until you can. Graffiti is an art, you should only want to place it were people will appreciate it though. either way, you dont want to put it somewhere where people will first think its vandilism and art second. put it were people will thik its art first and vandilism second ya know. every one else take it easy and if you dont have something nice to say dont say it at all. good work on all of these showed. madd props dudes and dudets

Gravatar image Thanks for posting those graffiti artworks. They actually inspired me for my logo design. Especially the one which looks 3D, almost like a sculpture. A lot of them are really beautiful to look at. These are truly masterpieces. I got my designer from logodesignplanet.com to create a logo design using some of the graffiti artworks I liked as references as I did provide this link to her. It turned out better than expected and it was affordable too - minus the time and hassle. Haha. Thanks for posting this by the way. Love your site.

Gravatar image

for those who dont like to apreceate go ahead and be like that . I,m just going to reconstitute what my fellow artists have said. Art is not somthing that should be tamed. You shuold be able to express yourself , bottom line. Let me tell you somthing , I have been around people who expressed art in many different ways wether it be tatoos, graffity people who like to design bikes or cars and many other avanues .I personaly am in the trades write now. Im a carpenter just trying to get by. I am also an artist and dont't doubt my self for a second. So for all those people who think they walk down the steet and see defication when they see this art maybe you shuold find your way to a nother block because we dont want your apinion anyway
Liz   2011-01-20 03:58:50
Gravatar image I agree art shouldn't b tamed it should just show u. Besides if someones got somethin 2say it better not b hateful because graffiti is just art man an it expresses how u r er feel .. Iguess ....

Shquid - street ART   2011-08-30 13:49:25
Gravatar image well to all you haters of street art, all the inspiration, time and effort worked into these magnificent pieces take one hell of a lot of skill, creativity, flair and the love and dedication to work pieces of art like these. all your posh pointy asses canvases, these street ARTISTS spend hundreds of dollars towards the making of their art, incorporating the element of risk tied to their creations. Its $8 per can for premium spray paint locally here in Australia, and i bet soo many artist bust nearly all their hard earnt cash toward their monumentally beautiful art structures called 'Graffiti' so be it, but is that what you would really call it? It would come to no surprise to conclude this to be the most risky form of art, with the biggest no no consequences, once you take into consideration of all this, street ART is one costly dedication. The artist do this, to show the rest of the world and you fancy pants cocks that true talent IS everywhere, not just down your little narrow lane to be recognized. Street ART has been round since the 70's-80's, whenever be it, until it mixes in and settles down into mainstream culture, which im sure it will, the prominently older back standers of what is for now mainstream art, and from one aspect im sure portraits were not an instant hit so neither may street art, but its upcoming. There is becoming more of it and im sure with the younger generations growing up, street ART will become a far more respected form. All you haters and your bull shit, i respect all forms of art for art, though it is all not of my high interest, i hold hate for your lack of a broad respect to ALL other forms of art, and not until you realize this you can become a real artist, art is art, to be respected in one way or another, not to be thrown hate on. You don't just see someone and decide you do not like them and punch them in the face, which you have practically done here, i would believe to consider that rude. Show some respect, we all do for something, lets just be more open minded and until you can revolt with a decent comment, which not one of you have, or possibly can, fuck off, if you don't like it, don't look, don't comment. Im a street ARTIST, i show respect for those around me and only deface the fronts of profit hungry self corporate bastards, who force feed us their garbage and shove their political media, THEIR graffiti into our faces, forcing us their crap, wether we like it or not, we have no say, so i show them mine. Im sure they don't mind, cause we're sick of their shit we don't need to be told what to do, though i would not dare to spray the poor independent corner store, defeated against a rising supermarket chain, i would NEVER either spray the poor residential house, theirs no need for it and its not cool. Street art is no real crime, its just as society cannot see our way, though they want us to see theirs.....it's becoming more widely recognized, its art, and i sure hope it does not stop what started it.....

I hope i can make a point, im not just focused on one thing but as a whole, society is decaying with big branded media and politics telling us of right or wrong, and everyone clearly needs to see this as art...its no crime or ghetto leisure, just go help yourselves and research who Banksy is, im sure he's open minded, maybe you'll learn something....fucking HATERS:P......one day may we all live in peace.
