The iPhone: Everybody knows what it is, many people "played around" with the gadget and most people love it. I also own one of these amazing smartphones, and the looks of the software is really, really sleek and innovative (Just like we're used from Apple).

I wanted to transfer (some) of these amazing designs to a webpage to re-create the same look and feel for webbrowsers. Today, I'm going to show you how to create The iPhone unlock screen in xHTML, CSS and jQuery.

OK, maybe not fully the "feeling" (look and feel) from the iPhone, since I can't make any webbrowser react to placing your finger on the screen, but your mouse will do the trick.

  

Features:

• XHTML and CSS valid.
• "Timer" displays the current time (Just like the iPhone).
• "Date" displays the current date (Just like the iPhone).
• Pretty sleek interface, including see-through elements (Just like the iPhone).
• Changeable background.
• Tested and working on Firefox 3, Internet Explorer 7 and Safari 3.

Known issues

• The "slider" doesn't slide back (what the iPhone does).
• The "unlock animation" isn't exactly the same as the iPhone.
• Doesn't work on an actual iPhone.

A while ago, I placed an article called building a blog with CakePHP - Part 1: Getting started. The tutorial gave you a good start in the world of CakePHP, just to learn the basics of the framework.

Now we're improving the blog by adding some functionality. We'll make it a little bit more search engine friendly and we're going to build an admin panel to add new articles.

As you might have noticed, I've been mentioning the Twitter service already a couple of times here. I've created a webpage that you can use to display your own Twitter updates and showed that Twitter can be great for asking quick questions to other Tweeters. You could follow me to get the latest updates too.

Anyway, the goal for article isn't promoting how great and addicting Twitter is. I went through the Twitter API to create another great and probably very useful Twitter application. I want to present to you the Mass Twitter Action & Retrieve Script.

What does it do? The mass Twitter script allows you to mass follow, defollow or retrieve friends or followers from Twitter. This can be useful for several reasons, like retrieving all your followers and automatically follow them back at once. Or de-friend a couple of people you follow because they're only spamming. I'm sure you could think about more reasons where you can implement this script.

  

Once again, I'm not going to explain the code. If you want to make adjustments to it, feel free to do so.

A while ago, I wrote an article called a Flash image viewer by reading directory contents. Jon Diamond found my article and used it to create a dynamic Flash logo scroller for ImageWorks Studio. You can view the scroller on the right side of the page.

Jon send me a mail, thanking me for the tutorial and included the sources files how he created the scroller. He approved to put the files on Marcofolio.net to let the users download and use it.

When I received the source files, I did want to make a minor change to the concept: The logo's should be click-able and be linked to a site. That's why I got into the code (PHP and AS), made the changes and now put it available. It's still fully dynamic: If you add a logo (or other kind of image), to a directory, it'll automatically be displayed in the scroller and is linked to a website.

  

I'm not going into the technical details this time. You can view the actionscript code in the FLA file and explanation of the code (PHP and AS) can be read in the other article. I'll explain some of the (very easy) configurations.

For those people that are following me already on Twitter will know that I'm working with the amazing CakePHP framework on my webdevelopment / webdesign job.

CakePHP is a rapid development framework for PHP that provides an extensible architecture for developing, maintaining, and deploying applications. Using commonly known design patterns like MVC and ORM within the convention over configuration paradigm, CakePHP reduces development costs and helps developers write less code.

This tutorial will give you a good start in the world of CakePHP, just to learn the basics of the framework. The official CakePHP Blog tutorial (For Cake 1.1) gives you a good idea, but this tutorial will take it a couple of steps further (and in the next parts way beyond the official tutorial). Don't worry: This article will perfectly guide to making your first steps on baking some code.

Download the source code I created directly if you don't want to write anything yourself, but still want to learn. I do recommend you to read the full article to understand the whole code. Take note that this tutorial is written for Cake version 1.2 (Using 1.2.0.7692 RC3 to be precise).
