Marcofolio.net gets a facelift

Remember my goals for 2009? One of the goals was: Finally changing / update my template. Today, I'm proud to release this template, giving Marcofolio.net a totally new and unique look.

The New Marcofolio.net

I already had my template designed November 2008, but never had the time to convert it to HTML/CSS. I was really lucky to be the winner of a PSD to XHTML contest on CrazyLeaf. The guys from Feathercode did a real good job at converting my PSD to a nice XHTML page.

Since I'm using Joomla!, I still needed to transfer this XHTML to a Joomla! template. It took me a while, but it's finally here: the new template for Marcofolio.net is placed in the wild!

Changes from the previous theme:

  1. Header/Footer (Didn't you notice?)
  2. Typeface
  3. Now added a live Twitter feed
  4. Made use of some fun jQuery
  5. Advertising spots are now through BuySellAds - Just $40 each!

Just check out the new Marcofolio.net that got a new, colourful, grungy, abstract new look.

Why?

The "original" Marcofolio.net theme was a modified, free Joomla! template. Although the template itselve wasn't really bad looking, it wasn't that personal. I think this new theme is and I'm sure it's a unique one.

The Old vs. the New

Old and New

I got some inspiration from the following sources:

  1. ABC tutorial
  2. CSS-Tricks
  3. Gaya Design
  4. Janko At Warp Speed

One more thing...

The new layout totally looks screwed up in Internet Explorer 6 and I'm not going to bother fixing it. I'll give IE6 users a personalized message soon, giving them a reason to upgrade.

I hope you like it! Feel free to give me any feedback about the theme, when something doesn't work correct etc. I still need to make some minor changes!

Gravatar image Alright, so here in more than 140 characters :-)
Design looks awesome, but on the blog index there should be more space and distinction between the tags, read more and comments link. The comments link could be floated to the right.
Marco - Thanks!   2009-02-26 21:44:07
Gravatar image Once again, thanks for the feedback! The reason why I asked you to place it here, is because I'll need to dig in the "Joomla!Comment" component to get the "problem" fixed. I would normally forget those things ;) .

I do agree with you - There could be some more spacing between those two links, so thanks for helping me improve the theme!

Gravatar image I like the new design (although I already saw it :)))) Looks much better and cleaner. Keep up the good work!

p.s. You left the design of comments the same, are you going to change it also?
Marco - Thanks Janko!   2009-03-01 18:21:40
Gravatar image Yup - You were one of the first people that already saw my new lay. Thanks for the compliment!

The comment system is indeed currently the same, but I plan on updating it when I have time. I just wanted to release the template first, so it'll aim at a larger audience :) .
Matthias - Great Work   2009-03-01 12:03:04
Gravatar image Hi, I love the new design - makes me almost sad to miss it, when I read your posts in my newsreader. ;)

However, I'm afraid there are some issues with it. Especially for narrow window widths (

Gravatar image Holy cow, what happened to my text?
Marco - Wow - Indeed what happened?   2009-03-01 18:24:09
Gravatar image Hi Matthias,

Thank you for the compliment and the feedback about the issues. I know the design isn't 100% "perfect" (yet), but I thought most of the "bugs" (and ugly stuff) was removed. Could you finish your feedback so I'll get an idea what you were trying to say? Maybe I missed that point ;) .

Thanks in advance!

Gravatar image Hi Sm4C!

Thank you for your wonderful feedback - Gives me real appreciation of what I did.

I did translate your comment from Spanish to English, because otherwise others wouldn't understand it :).

Greetings,,,

Gravatar image Jo EB,
I'm quite fond of your new design, however, i have a few suggestions that might improve it.
First of all, the size and position of the "Read more"-link. It strikes me as extremely large, especially when compared to the tags above it. Furthermore, i would leave a bit more space between the tags and the "Read more"-link
Also, because the frontpage is rather long, i didn't bother to scroll down, so at first i didn't see the footer bar. Perhaps you could limit the amount of items on the frontpage to two or something.
Other then that, a great improvement to the old design and i will continue to regularly check it out (maybe i should get me one of those feedreaders)
Regards,
Jape

Gravatar image There it is, your new design =).

I think Jape ;) has some good points.
I'd also like to add my shock when I hovered over the menu. Wiggly, but maybe a bit too much. It remembers how many times I've gone over an item.

Anyways, I like the overall Idea, but I'm not sure about the colours and the graffiti graphics.

I can see you've spend a lot of time on this. Keep up the good work =)
